Unkept Promised

When I was about 7 years old, I overheard my mom discussion with my dad about not having enough money to pay for electricity. When I heard it, I felt very sorry that my parents have to struggle to keep the bill being paid. So, I decided to go out and pick plums off the plum tree. Before leaving the house, I carried my secret weapon called 'the sling shot' with marbles and plastic bags. My dad asked me where I am going. I tell him, I go out to play with Sam. My dad was okay about it and instead of going to Sam’s house, I went to pick plum. All by myself without my dad, I walked miles across the bridge, cross the river, and found the location where plum trees and wild berries were grown. I remember dad use to teach me how to fish if there was no fishing rod/pole, he tell me to use a stick and string. So after picking wild berries and plum, I started fishing.
My cousin Tony saw me and he hollered me from afar and tosses me one small fishing rod/pole. We then started fishing together and I told him, let go make some money to sell our fish. After catching about nearly 8 fish, Tony and I help each other sell our fishes and plums. We took home about $50 each. One of the boys saw us with lots of money and he decided to rob us. Tony and I wouldn't give it to him so we fought with the little boy. Tony grabs the fishing rod/pole and start hitting him with it. I pulled out my secret weapon and start shooting him. He struggled and got up trying to run, the hook caught onto his pant and Tony had this idea and start rolling it in. Tony and I gave each other a high five and started laughing.
Uncle Lee saw us and he twists both of our ears and took us home. We realize that our parent called the police and neighbors were searching for us for nearly three hours. My parent was so mad and started hitting me. I started crying and tell them I was sorry. I was just trying to help them. I told them what I did all day and what happen before Uncle Lee found us. I gave my parent $50 and my mom started crying. I saw my mom cried and I cried too. I told mom, "Mom, don't cry..." and she ask me to promise her not to do it again. I told her yes, I promise. The next day I did it again.

Great story. Every child feels that they have to help their parents.
Nice and touching story!!
Wonderful story. Although your parents were upset with you being gone so long and not knowing where you were at, in the end I'm sure they were grateful for the money. At least I hope they were. Thanks for sharing!
Oh, you naughty little devil. I'm sure your parents were very sorry for yelling at you. Mine were the same when I caught a buss and my Grandma's house. A policeman arrived at her door saying he was taking back home. Not me I wasn't going.
Very nice story, thanks for sharing.
This story made me feel for you as a little girl trying to help her parents in her own way. Thank-you for sharing your memory with us. The emotion came through very well in your writing.
